A journey through the nation’s airports… ala SWA   Leave a comment

God bless America and all its splendor. I just returned from a nice little trip around the USA ala Southwest Airlines. Let’s count the cities: Sacramento, Los Angeles, Houston, Panama City Beach, FL, Destin, FL, Fort Walton Beach, FL, Pensacola, FL, Nashville, TN……! All in the span of 6 days.

The views outside the window of the 737 were incredible! It is amazing we were at 40,000 feet cruising over mountain ranges, oceans, deserts, cities. As we approached Los Angeles International Airport, the LA basin was as clear as I have ever seen it. The Hollywood sign was gleaming in the sunshine as the ocean beamed a bright blue. Personal landmarks abounded (I lived in LA for 5 years) There is Mountain Gate Country Club!! Randy’s Donuts!! Sunset! I love flying.

POLLY WANTS A CRACKER….   Leave a comment

I am sitting in a Seattle coffee shop in Belltown not far from Space Needle…. raining like mad…. never seen so many guys in beeneys….. I think that is what they are called. It was sunny yesterday and I ran up to Lake Washington. While there, I checked out the home where Kurt Cobain lived and died. There is a very small park next to the grounds with a little shrine. Not a soul there but wow I was definitely on a bicycle route…. sang a little Lounge Act…. ha.

Just returned from the Experience Music Project. It is a must see for a music buff. Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, created it and it really is a world-class museum. There is a huge Nirvana memorabilia expo going on now that is amazing. Over 200 artifacts, interviews, etc. fascinating for the music fan that I am. It is unbelievable how much music history is here in the Pacific Northwest. Jimi Hendrix is also from this area among many others. Check the site:

Great Month Ahead At The Grizzly Rose

Just returned last night from another raucous night with my fellow Ballardheds at the Grizzly Rose Honky Tonk in Denver, CO!  We jammed to another amazing set by our hero, Warner Brothers recording artist, Frankie Ballard.  As self-appointed president of the Ballardheds fan club, I travel the US on my favorite airline, Southwest Airlines, to support a superstar in the making.  Yes.  Jack Daniels, tales of 40 days and 40 nights in the pen, and chicks dominate the lyrical content.  The drunken banjo player’s guitar pic nearly took a woman’s eye out.   A cover of “Mama, Don’t Let Yer Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.”  Just another night in the life of a Ballardhed.  My good friend plays bass for the band as well and they are currently on tour with Kid Rock protegé, Uncle Kracker.  There was a nice crowd at the GRose which I had estimated at around 1800 or so.   I was hoping someone would jump on the Widowmaker, the GRose’s menacing mechanical bull, but it was not to be.  Ballardheds were preoccupied with flying guitar pics and two-stepping.   After the gig, Frankie and the fellas did their customary meet and greet.  The following day they were scheduled for another sold out show in Cheyenne, WY!
